The contributions in this issue are based (for the most part) on a two day event called "The Flowering Mirror of the Goddess" held on April 20-21 2002 in Long Beach, California.  In these two days, we honoured the Goddess as the Lady of the Flowers, the Labyrinth, the Rose, and the Lady of the Beasts.  We looked into Her Mirror and saw ourselves as Warriors, Maenads, and Drummers as well as Gardeners, Herbalists, and Artists.  We celebrated the growing cycles of our lives at an evening ritual and Flora, the Roman Goddess of Spring, in a closing ritual.  We read poems from "We'Moon '02" and we were nourished by Coyoe Cocina.
From the other side of the world, Briianu sent regrets that she could not be there and makes the marvellous suggestion that we devote an issue of The Isis Papers to our event and so here we are!
"The Lady of the Flowers"
Our Lady of the Flowers is present at the beginning of every new cycle, the Herald of Spring, Abundance and Renewal.  Her blooms are the crowning product of an older, previous cycle which began unseen within a seed that rested in the cold earth during winter.  When times are darkest, Her Powers are generating what is yet to bloom in our future.  In flowers Our Lady brings to us gifts of happiness and healing, making life pleasant and beautiful; and She brings us the harbingers of death.  Many plants that are annual in their cycles die after they bloom.  Yet within the heart of every flower lies the seed of the future, a continuation of the cycle, the promise of a bright  tomorrow.  Life continues, it flowers from the womb of the goddess, and She will never die.
